In its stratified country of origin, it’s the one day where the legacy of caste disappears, where rich and poor, young and old, all genders, foreigner and national, upper- and lower- class are equally painted, all interacting with each other, all the same wash of colors. It’s a celebration that merits crossing cultural boundaries, embodying what we as a country need now more than ever and what we always try to perpetuate at our parties: that everyone is equal and should be treated as such, and everyone is welcome.

* If you are feeling sensitive about the fact that we are celebrating a holiday from another country, please message the Chateau Fremont page directly -- we've had this conversation so many times, and are happy to tell you how and why we do it (and how we started doing this before any other public-facing group in Minneapolis). It's not for profit or any kind of gain, and we intentionally highlight

"Every year, thousands of Hindus participate in the festival Holi. The festival has many purposes. First and foremost, it celebrates the beginning of the new season, spring. Originally, it was a festival that commemorated good harvests and the fertile land. Hindus believe it is a time of enjoying spring's abundant colors and saying farewell to winter. It also has a religious purpose, commemorating events present in Hindu mythology. Although it is the least religious holiday, it is probably one of the most exhilarating ones in existence. During this event, participants hold a bonfire, throw colored powder at each other, and celebrate wildly." ~Wikipedia
