Join us for criminal and civil information about issues that affect LGBTQ people, from legal name changes to sex segregation policies at area jails and more!
Jess Braverman is an attorney with the Hennepin County Public Defender's office. Prior to moving to Minneapolis, Jess was a Staff Attorney with the Legal Aid Society's Juvenile Rights Division in Brooklyn New York. At Legal Aid, Jess represented young people charged with crimes, as well as youth in the New York City foster care system. Jess went to New York University School of Law where she was an Arthur Garfield Hays Civil Liberties Fellow and received the Eric Dean Bender award for her commitment to public service. At NYU, Jess participated in the Immigrant Rights Clinic, was a Senior Article's Editor of the Review of Law and Social Change, and served on the boards of the NYU chapter of the National Lawyer's Guild, and OUTlaw. During her time in law school, Jess was a Pauline Park fellow with the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund, and also interned at the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, South Brooklyn Legal Services HIV unit, and the New York Lawyers for the Public Interest's access to health care project.
J. Singleton is the Legal Technology Project Manager at Legal Services State Support, a project of the Minnesota Legal Services Coalition. J. specializes in using technology to increase access to justice. At State Support, she manages a statewide online intake system that connects potential legal aid clients with regional legal aid programs in all 87 counties; manages www.ProJusticeMN.org, a website for legal aid and pro bono attorneys; and develops guided interviews on www.LawHelpMN.org to help self-represented litigants draft court forms. Outside of work, J. serves on the Minneapolis Police Conduct Oversight Commission and is a volunteer attorney with the Queer/Trans Legal Clinic. J. is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School where she was a student instruction for the Immigration and Human Rights Legal Clinic.
