The Moxie Awards is a pivotal time for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities across the upper Midwest to convene.
Since PFund Foundation unveiled its Elevated Priorities at last year's Moxie Awards, we've seen how Trans Communities, LGBTQ People of Color and LGBTQ North Dakotans and South Dakotans have borne the brunt of transphobia, racism, xenophobia and discrimination.
The Moxie Awards celebrate the courage, spirit and determination of bold LGBTQA leaders and thriving LGBTQA communities. This is our opportunity to bring the LGBTQA community together to honor the victories and commit ourselves to the work that continues.
This year's honorees:
M Adams | Moxie Award for Community Leadership
M Adams is a community organizer and co-executive director of Freedom Inc., working with low to no income Black and Hmong wimmin, queer folks and youth in Wisconsin.
Adams is a leading figure in the Take Back the Land Movement, she presented before the United Nations for the Convention on Eliminating Racial Discrimination, is the co-Author of “Forward from Ferguson” and a recently published journal article, “Black Community Control Over Police.”
Adams is a proud dad to a 6 year-old who is a primary motivator for her work.
Minnesota Council on Foundations, Accepted by Trista Harris
Moxie Award for Inspiring Giving
The Minnesota Council on Foundations expands and strengthens a vibrant community of diverse grantmakers. MCF members represent three-quarters of all grantmaking in Minnesota, awarding more than $1 billion per year.
MCF has been an incredible partner, in a myriad of ways, to PFund Foundation as we work to inform and inspire the sector of philanthropy to do more LGBTQ-focused giving.
Trista Harris, president of MCF, has led cutting edge conversations about how philanthropy can be relevant in rapidly-changing times. Her framework on preparing for civic disasters is important as the LGBTQA community looks to the future.
