Here is the official event invite for Friends of Dorothy Meetup-- the 35+ queer group I proposed as part of the larger Autostraddlers group. This group is open to any LGBTQQAI person, who is 35+.
The goal is to host a monthy meetups at different locations, along with coming up with activiities and events we can do together.
As many of us "older" queers know it's not always easy finding people -- closer in age -- who relate to where we are developmentally on the path of life. While we may have younger friends -- who we love dearly -- it's also important to connect with folks who are closer in age.
During this initial meeting, we will discuss upcoming meetups, activities we can do as a group and how we want this group to run structurally.
I also want to stress the importance of sober mindfulness. As we progress forward, lets find places to meet as a group in non-alcoholic environments. While there may be occassions when we decide to hit a drag show at the local bar, lets balance this with sober type activiites.
Regarding the name of the group. For those of you who are not familiar with the term, Friends of Dorothy, was created during World War II as a way to identify gay men during a time when homosexual acts were illegal in the United States. Given the terms history, it made the perfect name for this group.
