Two years ago, after the joint march committee was created, the last of the previous Avengers disbanded, and i was asked to monitor the communications until a new group arose. So far, not so much. Last year, i worked with a handful of people and made something up. This year, i am too busy and a bit out of creative ideas. So it's up to y'all!
This is a community effort. The Avengers have always existed to serve those who were rejected by the rather limited view of the larger public of what kind of queer is acceptable in whatever areas they might buy into, or sell out to. We are the ones who say, "We are us, or I am I," as Dr. Seuss would say, and try to push back on heteronormativity, dress codes, slut-shaming, and so many other issues.
Two years ago, the joint march was created as a historic moment, to support CeCe McDonald ( Honee Bea ). There were many hopes for the future, but also many were moving on to other projects, to Tysn MN, Cafe SouthSide, and related projects. To SVC and other sexual violence centers, to RHI, and even OutFront and other centrist queer groups...
After that, where do we go next? Everywhere, i hope. CeCe is out, and doing well, we just passed a Safe Schools bill, which hopefully will be valuable for the new queer youth.
After this is done, i will be setting up some times, to try to get a new group going. Please pass this on. A year ago, within days, i had 7,000 people invited to confront the westboro baptist church. So many that even i was shocked, and i'm often accused of being too hopeful. So i know you are paying attention.
Let's keep this going. Onward, and all those other motivational words.
Thanks for reading. <3 you all.
