On April 23, as the ice shrouding Minnesota thaws, WAM will host its third annual design competition, in collaboration with University of Minnesota’s College of Design. 16 student designers have been asked to create ready-for-the-runway garments inspired by the Weisman’s exhibition of Siberia: Imagined and Reimagined, a collection of photographs that offers glimpses into Russia’s far eastern territories from the late nineteenth century up to present. Garments include non-traditional materials, innovative textures, and structural shaping with an emphasis on sustainable best practices.
Join us as we celebrate spring fever and reimagine Siberia. Tea tastings with Verdant Tea will spark your palette as you prepare to experience textures, techniques and traditions of the far East. Arrive early and visit the Weisman Art Museum's exhibition, Siberia: Imagined and Reimagined. Enjoy an intermission performance from Mill City Summer Opera and watch as the sun sets over the river and lighting from the University of Minnesota Theatre Arts and Dance fills the space. 16 models styled by Juut Salonspa will walk the runway to a curated playlist by Radio K. Designers will compete to win prizes from Treadle Yard Goods and Juut Salonspa.
Local stylist and event producer, I AM | Sarah Edwards, will emcee the evening's events.
