Yes this place is run down and a little ghetto but the crowd is very interesting and very diverse.The drag shows are very good.I love the back bar on the first floor you have to go through the men's room to access it.it'scool sleazy fun.

Loved it, but now I'm worried...

I've been to Gay 90's a few times in my travels over the years, and always had a good time. Yes, it's old and sticky, but that's what I loved... the horribly dated decor downstairs, the $5.99 spaghetti dinner special, the bingo nights. A drag queen/waiter on my last visit said it was being sold and changing management, and from the other reviews I'm guessing it's changed for the worse. On my last visit it was still fun, still served great drinks, and the many rooms and themes meant there was something for everyone. Here's hoping it comes back to it's tattered glory!

Well, this place should not be called Gay 90s as it was packed with non-gay. Drinks are decent, but the crowds were very mixed and sparsed; and with the expensive cover; definitely not worth it; unless you gota mixed crowd and just wanna drink and dance and lounge around.

Stepping into the Gay 90s is like being placed in an episode of The Twilight Zone. I normally appreciate mixed crowds, but the scene at the 90s makes for a tense environment. On any given night, the patrons are comprised of a combination of homosexuals, heterosexuals, transients, thugs, and drag queens. Furthermore, to call the 90s the "Mega-Mall of gay clubs" is like calling Louie Anderson a "Mega-Comedian." Yes, they're both big, but they're both also dumps. The 90s has multiple rooms with different themes playing different styles of music -kinda cool. Unfortunately, the crowds seem so separate that I've often felt unwelcome. The 90s is big, dirty, smelly, and sticky. Sunday nights seem to be its only popular night. Sundays are 18+, so be advised if you do or do not like young guys.

I didn't find this place to be very entertaining. I went on a Saturday night and was sorely disappointed by the less than decent crowd. Another thing - they changed their name to "The 90's", perhaps trying to distance themselves from it's gay roots. I'm not sure, but I do know that there were tons of straight people there, possibly outnumbering the gays. It was difficult to know who to flirt with and thus it ended up being a very boring evening. Supposedly they are opening a rooftop deck. If they do I would go back for that. Otherwise, I recommend staying away and finding friendlier gay bars with real gay people in them. It's definitely not at the 90's. It's heyday is over and now it's just a dime a dozen hip-hop bar.

I lived n mpls from 79-90...some of my best & most memorable times were at the GAY 90's...yes Virginia, the mgmt, as well as the majority of the staff, has ALWAYS been rude but...the way I overcame that was to have a few more vicious 90's coctails n ignore the bitches...its an awesome place that can never be replaced in my opinion...& if I ever get back to Mpls to visit, it will be the 1st place I will go!!!

I have been visiting this establishment for over 40 years and now they want $100.00 just to enter the door. Forget it I'll find someplace much more accepting of us "old timers"! Management can be very rude at times. Has steadily declined (in my opinion) over the years. They do have some of the best female impersonators tho!

I"ve been there,,,it's a super place..lots of candy....only thing dissapointing was the slow service-therefore we couldn't order a meal and took a sandwich instead.....has it changed any in the ten years since I've been there? I'm soon to find out!

I was recently at Gay 90's and walked around the immense place that it is. With over 8 different bars/ambiances it was one of the biggest Gay Clubs I have every been too. The place is in need of a slight facelift, which is underway. Definitely the straightest "Gay" bar I have ever been to. The entire place was full of conservative straight couples. I had spent hours getting ready to go out for the evening (in drag), and when I arrived I was met by odd looks from all the straight guys hiding behind their girlfriends. When I had to use the ladies room I was met and asked not to because someone might not be comfortable peeing in the stall next to me......AT A GAY BAR! All this while the straight girls run giggling into the menâ��s room to catch a sneak peek and the gay boys.-but that seemed to be fine. When I addressed the on site manager I was presented with quite possibly the rudest, most inconsiderate man I have ever met. I was promptly told "If I didn't like it, I could leave", I did. I had traveled over 800 miles so I could go somewhere where I could be myself, not be judged or ridiculed, but at the Gay 90's I found just the opposite. I left humiliated, feeling rejected by management that I thought, would understand and be considerate to the fact that a gay bar is one of the few places I can be myself and not have to be worried about being judged, rejected or even attacked....I was mistaken.....On the bright side: After leaving the Gay 90's I walked a few blocks down the street to the Saloon and had a wonderful time, I highly suggest the Saloon. Friendly staff, great clients, fun music, strong drinks, tasty food.

New ownership, New Changes

The 90's is getting cleaned up, as one reviewer talked about new Karaoke on Mondays. One of the new challenges I see is Security. The security staff has a difficult task. In the past there were many transient patrons that would hassle other patrons. Security has cleaned just about all of this up. On the flip side, because they had to be aggressive with transients, they sometimes treat their good customers with a harsh edge. The improvements are nice. I'll give it a few more months and see how the environment stabilizes. Good things are coming.

New Karaoke Show on Monday Nights.

The Killer B'S from The Saloon just started a new show every Monday at 10pm at the 90's. Last Monday was fun and entertaining. There were a lot of great regular singers and some newbies that just had a great time singing and dancing. This is a karaoke show I'd recommend.

Dudes, I have so much fun at the 90s, don't let the bad reviews scare you, try it, you might like it. It seems, Minneapolis, is the only city where many of the bars make the drinks extra strong. I love this fact. I want to go out, dance, hit on some cuties, do some shots, grab some digits, get laid, and socialize. This bar is AWESOME!

Still love it!

This place is fun and the dance floors are fantastic. Always a fun time and it is hard to find mega-plex clubs any more. The str8 people don't bother me like they do some people. I think it is a good sign that they hang out in gay bars. When I want to dance and hit a great drag show, it's the only place I go. The Rail is next door and they have great bartenders and I like to start and end there where I can chat with people more easily.

You can put lipstick on a PIG but its still a PIG. Staff is less than courteous, bathrooms are dirty and smelly, drinks are overpriced. Why bother?

The 90's has been around along time...as with any establishment it has it's great, good and bad days...over-all the 90's is coming back. The managment, security, entertainers and regular customers are working hard to make this a neat place to be..so quit bitching and join us to continue making this a comfortabl place for any and everyone who may need or want a home away from home.

Owners-Management NOT gay friendly!

Though the name says "Gay"-it's heyday has passed and this place is over-run by a very mixed crowd of bridal parties, druggies, drunks and just plain scary straight folks! The management does nothing to protect you and has been know to tell gay clientelle "we don't need your business". Staff tends to follow managements lead and is rude and often uncaring about the customer. It's too bad as this was once the jewel in the cities gay bars(70s-80s). So if you plan to visit this dive, just be careful!
